Guess it good you can't slander a dead man. None of are perfect or even close. For this SOB to be writing a book slamming one of the 2-3 best players in any sport that came from MS is a two bit gold digger. I'd probably spit a luggy on him myself. Even if parts are true, what purpose does it serve? Just to make a POS writer some money.

It's journalism. Slander implies that he's writing untrue, damaging statements about Payton.

Well a dead man can't defend himself. Slander can't be fought against as untrue and a dead man can't be damaged so there is no implication of untruth and no damages to the dead man. Ergo, find an athlete, actor, politician, et al and write all you want about that person and make you a million or two on their death. The fella will have to live with himself and I don't have to by his POS book. I can spit a luggy on him and if I see Iron Mike on his ass, I can join in. Will gladly.

If you think the average author is going to make one or two million dollars on a book about a dead football player, then tell me which publisher because I'll give it a shot.
So what's the answer? Biographies can only be written about living people? Or we can write biographies about dead people, but anything that suggests they were flawed must be edited out?

Guess we'll have to agree to disagree. What is the point other than money in bringing down a person of no great importance except as a hero to attack twelve years after his death?

I thought Rick Cleveland hit the nail on the head with his review of Pearlman's book.

I agree, the guy is cashing in. This is probably pretty tame considering NFL players nowadays though.

I guess we have found some common ground.
