Any plans of 2-gun or 3-gun at Magnolia??

Post by Stephen7942 on Tue Oct 04, 2011 10:06 pm

Just wondering if there is ever going to be a 2gun or 3gun match held at Magnolia or the surrounding area and where I could get some info on it.

I would also love a course that was just like uspsa competition style but shot with a carbine..

Thanks in advance for any info!

We had 3-Gun as far back as I can remember (1989), but it died out. It all came down to not having enough help to put the matches on.

Turnouts were sparse at best, usually pulling in 10 shooters or so. In recent years it's been done by simply not tearing down a couple of stages of the monthly USPSA match, and using them for 3-Gun.

If you like to try doing that, step forward. I'm sure someone will want to help.

I got ya. I'd even be down for running just a carbine through some of the courses after we are done. I need to get some practical training on my ar and I think that would be the way to do it.. Or run a carbine match on the 5th sunday of the month..

There are a few of us who have talked about using one or two of the courses of fire for this. It may happen one day, I gotta finish my carbine first lol

I need to see what I could do about a shotgun if we go three gun.. two gun would be fun just designate the steel targets for pistol and split up the course for paper for carbine and pistol.. I think it would be a blast and help me with my primary to secondary weapon transitions.

Stephen, I believe there are some 3 gun matches to the south of Jackson but I do not know how far away. Here is a link off of another site regarding same.

I feel obligated to say that the Poplarville multi-gun matches are a lot of fun, but they do not always strictly follow USPSA multi-gun rules. Ex/ they run night matches using natural/artificial light, sometimes shoot at non-standard targets, etc. I'm not trying to discourage anyone from going because you will have fun, just putting it out there for general info.

I'm game and what about a 2 gun rimfire class? Noticed alot of gun clubs are going to that to keep cost down and attract more shooters. ARs in 22 and 10/22s are what lot of people are using.

The way we did it in Oklahoma City was have monthly CARBINE matches - USPSA style courses with an AR. There were 4 division - Rimfire Irons, Rimfire Optics, CF Irons, CF Options - you can shoot an Eotech or sim. non magnified dot in IRONS. I think if we could get something like this going on the 5th sunday's when there is nothing else at Magnolia it would be a BLAST - EVERYONE has an AR - or maybe just do the 2gun thing - AR and Pistol - I think 3 gun is a lot of work and with all the mixed up rules where do you even start.

Monthly Carbine Matches (on the 5th Sunday's) who is in?!?!

.22's wouldn't be a bad idea. Especially for the type of ranges we'd be doing.

Count me in.

Brandon if we get this going, I may take that rifle off your hands.

If we are doing this - I wouldnt let you have the rifle.....the whole reason I'm selling it is it sits in my safe - no place to shoot it......

They are, but the can't be put on without prior approval in the last board meeting. The members recieve a set schedule for the calendar year.

There's a list of things to do:

Meet with the other Magnolia Rifle & Pistol Club Match Directors and plan your dates around the current established programs.

Pick a Match Director, or two to run your proposed program.

Come up with an equipment list, and what you need and what you're asking from the club.

Establish match fees/rules package/affected ranges.

The Magnolia BOD will not meet until sometime in Feb. 2012 to pick dates that run the balance of 2012 going into 2013.

I'm sure John or SubGun will chime in.

Sounds like we have a few months to iron the details out - Guys I am ALL for starting to get this going - who wants to help me??????

ETA - Thanks Cliff for the "how-to" on where to start...

You're welcome.

I'd ask John about testing the waters after a USPSA match that's already on the calendar, just to see if you have the man power and interest.

I'll give you a hand in whatever you need. I have always wanted to run a carbine type practical course.. My ar needs some attention. Let me know what I need to do.

I don't currently have an AR, but I'd be willing to help with the getting things prepared to present to the Board and all the requirements to actually run the matches if the Board approves. All things that need to be finished before Feb 2012.
