Captain, last Friday you posted: "Probably no roadtrip for me ... Bet the line will be a line long -- would have to get there about 4AM to get a good spot in line!!"
I guess "probably" was the key word here.
So, did you do some shopping? Were the inside photos from today? (no crowds). It's cruel to leave us hanging like this.

Re: CMP Trip Today!! - Updated 10/7/11
OK -- these pictures were actually taken by the CMP staff PRIOR to our arrival!! They were taken around 7AM ....... They said there were 87 folks in line before 7AM. We got to the store at 8:20AM and were about 20th in line. They decided to open "Early" - 7:30AM instead of 8:00AM and had let a "BUNCH" of folks in .... We probably stood in line to get into the store for about 40 minutes and there were a lot of folks in line behind us. Talked with a guys who drove in from Miami, Dallas Area, Savannah, and many from AL and GA. Here is what it looked like when we did make it in - Of course, many had come and gone before we actually made it in!!

MORE A LITTLE LATER ....

Well, as you can see from the pictures above, the store was well stocked; however, when we finally made it into the store, there were many, many empty slots where rifles once sat ...

With everyone running around grabbing up rifles; Tom and I put together a quick plan -- we quickly found a rack with about 10 guns missing ... went a grabbed a couple rifles of each kind that we were interested in and brought them over to "our rack" where we would make a quick inspection ... with one of us standing guard over our stash, the other would brave the crowd and seek out more rifles and bring them back for inspection ... And, YES, there were guys who would reach for our rifles we had in "our racks"!!
Once we had debated over and over with what we had picked out, it was time to start the out-processing. We took our selections over to the counter and had them tagged as SOLD with our names on it. Now for the paperwork!! -- and I thought getting in the store would be the chore .... Of course the line for processing the paperwork and payment was out the door ... Look closely at the picture below and that is a line all the way around the back side of the store ... from one side of the picture to the other side of the picture - and the picture did not capture the entire line!!

I remember being in that line for more than an hour .... finally a member of the CMP staff announced that we should all just write our credit card number on the paperwork and sign it ... the process actually did speed the line up because they would not run each card at the time you presented your paperwork at the counter. One of the hardest parts of standing in this line was actually rethinking our purchases -- and looking at more rifles as the line progressed around the store ... I know I should have gotten one of those $450 Krags!!
Ok - paperwork turned in and now we are almost finished!! WRONG!! After turning in the paperwork the fun part started ... waiting on them to charge our credit cards, match our rifles up with the paperwork, and print invoices. We were directed to the back loading dock where we were to wait until they called our names. I knew we should have just had the rifles shipped back to Mississippi; however, we thought we were doing the right thing because shipping was more than the AL sales tax on each of the rifles we bought - by a couple $$s each!!

Finally after about an hour and half -- they called my name!!

After about another half hour, they called Tom's name .... We left CMP headed back to Mississippi at about 2PM ... and we are back!!
OH YEA -- we did bring back 6 rifles.

Well we did bring back 6 rifles for our effort!! Tom brought back an H&R M12 and a great looking Remington Model 541X. Sorry – Did not get any pictures of Tom’s rifles.
I put 4 rifles in the truck:

Mossberg M44US

Mossberg M144US

H&R M12

Remington 513T

Wish I had latched onto one of those Remington 541X’s – just not enough funds!!
