Got some as a kid back in the day. Bottom was open and the fuse was taken out. No idea where is went, maybe to Mize. I imagine the kid had the same kind you can get from a gun show for $5.

The grenade was inert, not a dummy. The charge explosive had been removed from it, but there was still enough residue that the explosives dog alerted to it.
My daughter was in class a few doors down the hall from where this took place. When my wife called and told me what was going on, I went to the school...well, as close as I could get. The local LEO's had the entrances roped off, but were more than willing to answer any questions that the parents had. I spoke with the teacher who discovered the grenade. He stated that he could tell that there was no charge, but had no clue about the cap. He removed it from the building just to be sure and informed his boss. Even though there was no apparent danger at that time, they still had to follow SOP's. The teachers, staff and LEO's did a great job throughout the entire time.

Back in my day this was a non-issue, but you just can't do this anymore. Come on parents teach these kids some common knowledge. As he steps down off his pedestal. LOL
