unread topics marked as read

I've had this problem a couple of times lately. I'll get on the board to see what's happening and all topics will be marked as "read", even the ones I have not read. Is the problem me or the board? Anyone know what I can do to fix it if the problem is on my end?

It seems to be now that anytime I visit the board, then leave, all topics are marked as read, whether I looked at them or not (and without clicking the "Mark all topics read" link). I'm wondering if it might be my browser (Firefox 8.0).

Can anyone tell me which version of phpBB is being used? I found a similar issue in the phpBB knowledge base with version 2. There was also something about cookies being used to determine which threads show up as unread. If this is the case, I may need to work on my cookie settings, because I keep them very restricted.

If you leave the site and you are logged out or clear out the cookies, sometimes it will mark topics read. It shows topics that have not been read since the last time you were logged in. If you clear cookies, it is the same a logging out as far as the software is concerned.
