Does it have the lock bar sight?
I was amazed and saddened at the same time when my son started JROTC and I got to talking with the Sgt. Maj. about the dewat M1 Garands; out of 27 there were 10 Winchesters, all with the lock bar rear sight . . . the Army has now recalled all of them, presumably for final destruction (they were already welded up and such) and replaced them with 1903 replicas mfg. by Daisy.
Anyway, if several of those Winchesters hadn't been dewatted by the govt., they would have been fine collector's items! Sad to see what our govt. does ! What a waste!!

Hopefully if the Army has recalled them, they will end up at CMP!!

No locking bar, appears to have been through the arsonal in 1960 but the barrel and chamber measure less than 1 for wear. Pretty pleased this is as close to a complete winchester I have ever owned.

The barrel is WRA - What is the barrel date? Can't believe they did not change it when it went through reconditioning ... Interesting!!

There is no date on the barrel on series number and WRA under the top handguard, I can only assume one of two things, it is the original barrel or a WWII left over barrel was attached during the rearsonal. I understand that Winchester did not date their WWII barrels, but did so on the 1967 production run and also added the word winchester. The is a 4 c when the operating rod is pulled back.

I'm still saving for my first Garand. One thing is for certain - they aren't getting any cheaper! Nice find for sure.

Does the markings look something like this -- this is a WWII production barrel ...
