i have a buddy that has the exact same rifle caliber combo and his groups equally well with handloads.

i have the Winchester version in 405 and with 55gr h4895 300gr barnes bullet it will put 3 shots like the above, 5 shots open a tiny bit as recoil becomes rancid- still shooting it with the metal buttplate.

I LOVE this style gun in these big old calibers.

Now if they would only chamber one in .35 Whelen we'd have the ultimate primitive weapon rifle.

I just saw four of these bad boys on Gunbroker, search B78. One even comes with the factory box and has a decent price.

Man that is a fine rifle. I have been wanting the 1885, but if I can find a 78 with a rubber butt pad I believe I would consider that as an option. Btw those are some awsome groups. Browning sure knew how to make some works of art
