1911 Long Slide video disassembly problem (Video Restored)
That 1911 Springfield Longslide V-16 that I posted a while back that my cousin purchased, he is having a major problem with disassembly and reassembly. Here is a video he has sent me a few minutes ago. I can tear down a standard GI style 1911 in about 10 seconds but have never disassembled or reassembled one like this. Can you all take a look at this video and tell me what he is doing wrong? Thanks. J

The owner's manual says it has a 2 piece guide rod, and needs an allen wrench to disassemble.

Re: 1911 Long Slide video disassembly problem (Video Restored)
Ill be reposting the video in a couple of hours, he took it down but is putting it back. He took out the front piece of the guide rod. But where it unscrews from the front there is the piece that it unscrews from, the spring doesnt go forward of that piece. I found a thread on it in a handgun forum that several people said you have to put the spring in like that and hold pressure on the spring inside of the slide while reassembling it. They said its a operation in frustration and a real b___h. I would think Springfield wouldnt build a gun that is so hard to reassemble. There has to be a better way, let me know when you all see the video.

If you can't get it done, let me know. I build 2 1911's a week and will be happy to check it out.

I would not take that front piece all the way out. Loosen it first, but don't remove. That will keep the spring captured. pull the slide back and pull the slide stop out. Remove the whole upper slide assembly. Then you can remove the front half of the guide rod, let the tension off the spring and remove it all.
Reassembly.... put the guide rod assembly together while slide is off the receiver, but don't tighten all the way the front half just yet. Put the slide on and pin the slide stop back in. Then tighten up the front half of that assembly.
Looks just like one of the STI's.
