First 410 Reloads in 25 years.

Post by cwink on Fri Oct 14, 2011 1:46 pm

My dad and I used to shoot skeet/trap every Thursday night when I was a kid, needless to say he started reloading to save him some money and faster shells. I can't count the number of shells I loaded on his old bench. Well as kids do I grew up and moved off and went to college, but my Dad still shot every Thursday night. When he passed away in 2006 I gave all his reloading equipment to my Ex-Step brother he is is good kid and I really didn't intend on useing it. Well, last week I bought my son a little 510 Mini in .410 and I called up my Ex-Step brother and asked if he still had it, and he said yep, just to let him know what I wanted. Well he shipped me the .410 and 28Guage. I got them all set up and ready to go.

Here is the little 410 with My Son's Name engraved on it

Here are the first few rounds out of the Mec loader from me in over 25 years.. Man it feels good to use them again.

Congrats on getting back into shotshell reloading. I recently bought 2 used MEC 600 Jr loaders that I have "restored".... They are both 12ga and I too look forward to reloading shotshells again.

... bet it has been 30yrs since I cranked a shotshell out on an 'ol MEC ... can remember turning them out as fast as I could put a wad in the machine ..... still got the set-up for 12, 20, 16, an 10 guage. About time to try it again in prep for our MSGO Dec Skeet/Trap shoot at Capital Gun Club!!

I reload rifle/pistol but have not gotten into shotshell. With the price of 410 sooooo outrageous, does it save alot of money to reload them when you start from scratch.

I got back into it to reload bismuth for the 410. Since it is about 2.5 per shot if you buy it factory loaded and I can load it for about 1.50 a shot it should save some money over time.

Mascott:

It saves a TON of money. Even with the ridiculous price of lead right now, you can easily load a box of 2.5" .410s for $2.50.

A MEC Jr is around $165 . . . it pays for itself pretty dang fast!

You can easily get 5 reloads out of each .410 Winchester HS or Remington STS hull. I load them in batches of 500, load them each 5 times, then give them to a buddy who loads on a single stage press who keeps on loading them.

What load are you using? I have been trying 3" #6's with 2400.
