1902 Krag 30.40
Shoeshooter, BigBanker, and DMC49 and I took a quick trip over to CMP a few days ago ... I picked-up that Krag that I did not bring back on the last trip I made over there ..

Was cleaning it up a little tonight and found something interesting ... inside the buttstock compartment, there was a piece of paper folded and stuffed inside ... here it is --

Looks like Joe Graves, 1100 Lyndon Street, Green Bay, WI was issued this rifle at some point in time. Could be interesting in that they were being phased out of the army between 1903 - 1907 and being replaced by the M1903. Just a little more history attached to this rifle. .....

Let me know if you take another quick trip anytime soon, would like to tag along. Like the krag by the way, friend of mine brought one by the house a while back almost identical to it.

Nice rifle! What is the condition of the barrel? I saw that CMP had some Krags when they they also had the 1903 and 1903A3s available. I didn't realize that the Krags looked like they were in that good of shape.

Capt. - You should send Joe Graves a letter regarding the Krag and see what kind of response you get.

Nice rifle and the paper is a nice piece of history! I wonder how many other rifles contain similar artifacts. I love history! This is a great reminder of the GIs that held and used these rifles.

Nice rifle. Note in the buttstock is great. Have always wonder how the side magazine works. Read the other day, the Germans built about 4000 during WWII after they captured Norway. They shortened the barrel 6" and put a hood front sight on it to make more like the 98K. Wonder if any of those are floating around?

Nice rifle. I read that there are more machining steps to just the magazine than there are to an entire Mauser.
