Anyone here shoot or own a .50GI. Do you know if it is possible to just do a top end swap and mag swap on a standard GI .45acp. The idea sounds good, but I don't think they ever took off.

I've never shot one, although it sounds fun. The guncrafter industries M1, which is supposed to be very close to the M1911, is said to have a proprietary frame and slide. An often asked question is whether a customer can convert his own 1911 into a .50 cal. pistol by purchasing a barrel, slide etc, from Guncrafter Industries.
Unfortunately the answer is no. Serious re-engineering has taken place on both the frame, slide, magazine and barrel to create the 50 GI cal. Model No.1 pistol, and these main components of the pistol will no longer work in conjunction with std. 1911 frames, slides and barrels.

I saw they made a conversion for Glocks and hoped they could do one for Standard 1911s.

On paper it looks great. Would love to shoot one. Shoot I would like to have one. It makes a big hole at a slow speed, there's got to be nothing but good things about that!
