Enough interest in a Silhouette section under the comp forum?
Beladran said there was some interest in a Silhouette section of the comp. forum. How much interest is there for this section??

.I would like to see it grow.. I will nominate it for its own section, anyone else?
Re: Enough interest in a Silhouette section under the comp forum?
Don’t take this as a nay saying.
Probably be a pretty good idea (if I understand what you’re proposing).
But truth be told I’d probably continue my silhouette-based posting in those threads I’ve already beat to death: “Home, Home On The Range”, “9mm 1911’s”, “My New Mousegun”, to mention a few.

I'll second Beladran.
I'd like to give it a shot and at the very least try it and learn more about it and I think having a specific section for it would be much easier than having to weed through all the other post from other sections to find the info.

Someone explain to me what is meant by Silhouette shooting -- what exactly are we talking about here?

Re: Enough interest in a Silhouette section under the comp forum?
Yea - I understand that part; however, are there any matches around here in the state? Only one I know of is a smallbore on the coast - not much participation has I understand ... do we need a dedicated forum?

Re: Enough interest in a Silhouette section under the comp forum?
Give me some time to introduce this whole forum to the Smallbore Rifle Silhouette Community. I cancelled the last Rifle Silhouette Match I held at Magnolia and then had to put it back on due to demand from this forum. That Match was one of the most successful I put on at Magnolia and it had actually been cancelled the week before. Rifle Silhouette is a seasonal sport from March through the third weekend in October each year. The off season just started. Only a few clubs run a schedule through the Winter. I am not involved in IMHSA. I compete in sanctioned NRA Smallbore and Air Rifle Silhouette Matchs. I have never shot in an unsanctioned Outlaw Match even though they exist.
I did not know anything about this msgunowners forum when I was putting on the matchs at Magnolia until the very last one. None of the other Mississippi Match Directors know about it but I will inform them.
Standing Rifle is the most difficult of all the Silhouette Sports proven by the number of perfect scores that have been shot. The handful who have shot a perfect 40 out of 40 are Superhumans and can be counted on one hand. 40 out of 40 are quite common in the any postion handgun silhouette matchs. It has taken me 11 years to shoot a 32 out of 40.
With the combination of handgun and rifle Silhouette I think there will be enough activity to try the sub-forum awhile but give it through October of 2012.
Subgun, Do not be discouraged and tear up the Smallbore rails you designed for Magnolia yet. Politics in a Club to the West of us will throw the opportunity for a successful Smallbore Mississippi State Match our way in 2013.
The real info about Silhouette is on the forums on www.steelchickens.com. Check it out! HighPower Centerfire at Zwolle, LA. just finished Sunday. Full size Rams at 600 yards in the Standing position make quite an impression on folks. Traditional Silhouette Matchs always consist of a fiesta, shooting the Match and visiting with friends. Kind of a Match and tailgating at the same time. That is the way Pancho Villa started them and the tradition has continued for over 100 years now.
The next Match I will attend will be the first Saturday in March at Winnsboro Gun Club. If anybody wants to tag along with us, please pm me. We will have all kind of loaner rigs for you to try out.
Pee Wee will be doing the cooking for Lunch. Post lunch scores are never as high as pre-lunch scores.
Hope this sub-forum works. I sure would like to post scores and acitivities here.

Was thinking something else.

Re: Enough interest in a Silhouette section under the comp forum?
I'd like to see a dedicated forum for Silhouette shooting here to help boost interest in the game. While it has been around awhile many people are unaware of the challenge it presents for those not scared to actually stand up and shoot. Interest is what builds participation but you have to know where and when to participate to give it a try.
The game is so simple is it stupid yet so difficult to master it is addictive. I shoot Smallbore, High Power and Air Rifle silhouette now and that is all I shoot. Nothing like watching the animals fall after a great shot. So all you hunting camp sharp shooters join in and lets see just how sharp a shooter you are or aren't after all lol. These little animals just sit there so how hard could it be? Right? LMAO

Interested in Introductory Silhouette Seminar???
Is anyone interested in a short Introductory Seminar or Mini-Camp for NRA Smallbore Rifle Silhouette one Saturday or Sunday afternoon at Magnolia Rifle and Pistol Club?
Off the top of my head course curriculum:
(1) Origins of the Sport
(2) Built in Safety Procedures.
(3) Course of Fire
(4) How to score.
(5) How to build the standing postition. It is not what you think.
(6) Equipment from basic beginner to what the National Champions use.
(I will demonstrate a variety of everything used on the firing lines including
trigger variations
(and stock variations.) This includes rifles, scopes, mounts that really work.
(7) What you can and cannot wear and how what you wear is tested.
8 How to get the 40 grain .22 Match ammo out to 100 meters accurately.
(9) Spotting for the shooter and basic wind calling.
(10) What and what not to buy.
(11) Training for success.
(12) The Mental game. Some call it Zen.
(13) How far can the Sport take You? Hint! It can take you to a full-time job.
PM me if you are interested? No charge this time. My normal fee for this is $80 per Hour. I am not the best shooter but have spotted, travelled and been on the firing lines with the best. For example we shot beside multi-time Olympic Gold Medalist Lones Wigger for 3 days in 2007 at Raton. I actually outscored him on Day 2.
By the way Smallbore means .22 Rimfire Long Rifle 40 grain bullet Standard Velocity not Centerfire.

If Allen, Bobby and others are participating another forum would be great.
Allen, so far I've kept the expert deer hunters from putting shooting benches on y'alls pretty tables, but it's early in the season.
