Colt Government Model 70

Post by 363coupe on Thu Oct 20, 2011 11:05 am

I picked up this Colt at the gun show a couple weeks ago in Tupelo. I've been trying to find a place to decode the serial number on it but I haven't had any luck. Can anyone here help me out with this?

The serial number is: 26755G70

My serial number chart indicates that is was made in 1977. They made a little over 31,000 of them that year.

Do you happen to know if the grips are factory or did they come with the medallion grips?

Might be a dumb question but what are you calling the idiot mark? The orange sight?

It's the 1/4 inch scratch right behind the trigger, I should know I'm in the "idiot" bunch.

I've got one of them! Bought it in 1980 and paid $298 for it brand new! Wish I had bought a truck load of them!
