What is the course of fire for NRA Hi-Power as shot at SWGC Burns range?

Do we have to use ammo bought at the match or furnish our own or what?

Thanks.

NRA course of fire

Post by PhillipM on Fri Oct 21, 2011 2:15 pm

The National Match Course

This is a 50 shot course of fire that is common in service rifle only matches.

Position . . . # of Shots . . . Type of Fire . . . Distance

Standing . . . 10 . . . Slow Fire . . . 200 yards 10 min

Sitting . . . 10 . . . Rapid Fire . . . 200 yards 60 sec

Prone . . . 10 . . . Rapid Fire . . . 300 yards 70 sec

Prone . . . 20 . . . Slow Fire . . . 600 yards 20 min

The Regional Course

This 80 shot optional course. If someone opts to shoot 80 rounds it has to be done in pairs so you have an 80 round shooter in the pits and one firing. I guess if three want to do it and there are three relays that would work out too.

Position . . . # of Shots . . . Type of Fire . . . Distance

Standing . . . 20 . . . Slow Fire . . . 200 yards Two strings 10 min each

Sitting . . . 20 . . . Rapid Fire . . . 200 yards Two strings 60 sec each

Prone . . . 20 . . . Rapid Fire . . . 300 yards Two strings 70 sec each

Prone . . . 20 . . . Slow Fire . . . 600 yards 20 min

Until just recently the shooter had to start the rapid fire stages from standing. Now it's started in position.

I believe Phillip no longer sells .223 but will .30-06, however surplus ball .30-06 has no chance of scoring well at 600.

Thanks, Phillip.

I was looking at some match grade '06 and was wondering how much to buy for one match. Looks like 3 boxes will do.

Very Happy

I think the best loaded ammunition is the Hornandy Amax, selected for use at Camp Perry. It is expensive though!

I forgot to add, there are two sighters for each position so with 60 rounds you'll have two left over.

If you have an accurate lot of .30 M2 Ball ammo, It can be used at 200 yards. I do recommend match grade ammo at 300 and 600 yards,

Doug

PhillipM...... you have one too many strings in each of the rapid-prone and rapid-sitting stages of the 50rd NMC. Smile
