I don't think it really matters in the long run. We still have enough nukes to extinct the world several times over.

We should dismantle even more, we could cut our inventory in half and still kill all of mankind twice over!

SAVE MONEY on security and maintenence cost, REDUCE unnecessary spending!

As long as we have plenty. Bet Kadaffi wishes he hadn't caved in and ended his nuclear program.

As long as we don't plan on keeping it, I have a few ideas of where we could drop it instead of just taking apart. Smile

Destroying an obsolete weapon is merely a political "good faith sign", to whom doesn't really matter. We have many more modern designs with multiple warheads...that are not only more precise, but also more deadly. As stated already, there are still more than enough to kill everything on the planet if humans get stupid enough.

this thread began in 2011..... the nuc was dismantled....and on 1/1/2012 doomsday clock.org which has existed since th 1940's still moved the minute hand ahead one minute closer to midnight.

they have us now at 5 minutes til midnight. No 2 minutes like in the 50's or 3 minutes til midnight in the 80's....but 5 is close enough

"Today's bombs are smaller but more precise, reducing the amount of collateral damage, Kristensen said."

So, if we drop several 1.2 Megaton warheads from a MERV on several cities we will be worrying about collateral damage?

ummmm.....

Politics never make sense.

But anyway, was guided around a little of the Pantex plant in TX few years ago. Got to see the prototype of the little boy and a few of the older designs. It was pretty neat to say the least.
They assembled, disassembled, and stockpile nukes there.
It took a whole day to get clearance. They purchased two power transformers under a fake energy company name and it was chaos trying to get thru the gate just to go test them.
Even had the SRT's escort us to the bathrooms and to the mess hall to eat.

When politics makes sense to you, you are probably part of the problem rather than the solution!

Scott, i agree.

T of L,
Little boy prototype looked like a 200 gallon butane tank. That place was amazing and a few of the SRT guys were cool. Kept pickin at them bout not having the BFA's in the barrels of their m4's and asked if they were ever shot prarie dogs with them inside the fence.

Micronukes will be what they take out the bomb factories under cities in Iraq. Detonate a mile down will hardly shake the glasses in the cupboards or wake the children from their sleep.
