I Tried to Resize My Thumb Today

Post by g2072 on Thu Oct 27, 2011 12:39 am

And it didn't work out too well. I looked away while resizing some brass for just a second and got my thumb with the press. Right now it feels like somebody is trying to cut it off with a very dull butter knife. It cut the dog out of it but you can rest assured I won't ever do it again. I'm only paying that stupid tax one time. I may have to pay it for something else but from now on I will be paying attention to what I'm doing. Probably needed a few stitches and I'm hoping my thumbnail isn't as bad as it seems. It's been a long time since I did something stupid to hurt myself but I knew right away it wasn't going to be pretty. Nobody told me reloading was a contact sport.

Just like "M1 thumb", once you do it you'll remember to never do that again. Hope it heals up soon. I know that had to be painful.

I've done it before, not as bad though. It usually happens to me when I get in a hurry and start up with the ram before my hand is out of the way.

I'm usually not in a hurry when actually loading, just when I'm doing the part I hate, RESIZING!

No pics are coming. I'm saving what little dignity I have left. I was doing good until something came down the hiway and distracted me. I bandaged it up and it finally quit hurting this morning. My dad always said anything worth doing is worth doing right. Well I did a fine job of ripping the top part of my thumb off. It did get me to thinking though. I didn't go to the doctor so I actually saved a couple hundred bucks that I would have spent getting it sewn up so I'm thinking about looking for a 40 S&W long gun. I've really had a AR type gun in a pistol caliber on my mind. That's not too far of a stretch is it. I mean it would have cost at least a couple hundred so I did save money by not going to the doctor didn't I. That's the mentality my friend girl has.

A finger shaved is a penny earned. Something like that.

big thumb up thats good stuff.

did something similar but not quite as bad, was mounting a rcbs singlestage and just picked it up at the top of the press. i guess i picked up with enough force for the handle to drop and up comes the ram into my fingers. hurt like hell but no blood.

Next time get a friend to sew it up for you. I'll do it for brass. It may not be pretty but I got some sterile stuff so probably won't get infected. I ordered me a .40SW upper for one of my AR lowers. When it comes in I'll let you know how much I love it.

Better than that how about letting me come look at it. I have a bad hankering for one but I'm a little unsure just what I have to do. Would it be possible to be able to change calibers without changing the whole upper. I saw a video somewher online and a guy was shooting a SBR AR type and I was thinkin it was a 40 but I can't find it again. Man, it set me on fire wanting one.

Well I'm on the wait for the transfer from one Class III to one here in town then the real wait will start. The 120 day plan. When I get it I'll meet you at Magnolia and we can shoot the heck out of it. I am using a dedicated upper.

Done that also, it really feels better when you get the decapping pin punched into your finger. Heidi Ho is 1 of the expressions you will scream out. Ya'll do know not to trust a fellow who will do this to his own hand, never hold a chisel for another to hit, never hold a piece of brass while someone else is pulling the handle!!!

I haven't tried to resize my thumb, but I have tried to drive it into a 2 x 4 a couple of times. I hope it won't slow you down any.
