Is this illegal????

Post by ineedmoreguns on Thu Oct 27, 2011 8:20 pm

A freind was telling me that years ago he would reload his 30-06 spr brass with a wadcutter 22 in a sabot . Have any of you every heard of such a thing and if it is even legal. I would love to know because it would speed the round up to around 4000 fps.

Yes I have heard of it, don't think they are illegal. Remington use to sell a 30-06 Accelerator ammo that had a 55gr bullet in a sabot. The dies and sabots to reload were sold too. They sold .308 and 30/30 accelerators too, shot some of those years ago. The Accelerator aren't listed in the 2011 Remington Catalog, so don't if they still make them or not.

Why would they be illegal? Found out what the Dems were worried about but don't think they were ever outlawed, if you can still reload them.

Found the reloading componets and why Remington doesn't make them any more.

Yeah. It was called an accelerator. It was like you said, basically a 22 cal round in a sabot loaded into a 30-06. If I remember correctly the argument against it was that the host rifle didn't leave rifling marks on the round and was not traceable by forensics units or something like that. My understanding is that the production was made illegal, not the possession. Im sure there are still some floating around but probably not in any sort of quantity. This is just what I remember, somebody else might have some more complete information

I have a few rounds of the Remington 30-06 Accelerators. They use a 55gr 22cal bullet. It is my understanding they were never very accurate.

I had some in 308 25 or so years ago. Never were much to write home about. I was better off using either the 308 or the 5.56. Mixing the 2 didn't cut it for me.
