Patton on Brad Meltzer's Decoded (the shot)
Did any one see Decoded about Patton's death? They had a man say he tried to kill him with a "air type gun" that shot a bolt or a rock to break his neck. Ok I can maybe see that. But they took an air rifle and tried to hit what looked to be a 2" diamond at 10 yards with a scope no less and missed, then tried to hit while a man pulled it and you guessed it, missed! So now they say that it could not have been done. I don't think this guy is even a shooter much less a marksman. A kid could have made the shot. This was a marksman's type air rifle too with a target style stock and scope. Now I don't know if the story was true about them trying to kill him. But wow what a stupid way to disprove something. And the man that was said to be the one to try to kill Patton was an OSS opp. This is just hogwash. (the missed shot not the trying to kill him)
Thanks for letting me rant. But wow, how dumb do they think we are?

The history channel became the 'dramatic historical fiction' channel long ago. Drama sells.

That is one show I avoid. I watch a few shows on History, but not that one.

UFO's and their landing strips, Kennedy assassination, Easter Island and the Pyramids. I like watching real life shows like "The Walking Dead".

Well, first off Patton wasnt murdered. It was an accident with many witnesses, including Hap Arnold. The truck driver who ran the stop sign was interviewed in the 70's and told his side of the story and how he has lived with it his whole life. Patton was alive long enough in the hospital to give instructions to his wife and aide-de-camp on how to finish and release his memoirs. BTW, its an excellent book. I have read it several times. Its called "Patton-War as I knew it". Metzler throws out a bunch of BS. You can watch the whole thing here.

Well, I never said I thought he was killed and never watch that show. I just happen to see that it was about Patton being killed and that was the first I had ever heard anything about that, so I watched it. And still don't think he was kill. But what I was saying was that they had a guy try to shoot a target with a target rifle and target scope, and still he missed. A shot that I could have made with a "red rider" BB gun and then say that was proof that it could not have been made. That is what I got on a rant, rave, and soap box about. For a man that can write good books and do ok movies, he has the suckiest show on tv. I am going to the library and check out that book you were talking about. I love history and he was one of my heroes. We should have went right up to Russia's border. If he had his way the world would be different today.
And for the people that don't like the History Channel some of there stuff is just too out of this world for me, like Christ was an alien! Right? WOW!!!
They do have some good shows like Pawn Stars, Swamp People and some that I can't think of right now. (not saying that they are not dumb, there just fun to watch)

No, I didn't see the show on Patton but I have watched others like the Statue of Liberty and the Declaration of Independence, and the missing cornerstones of the White House and Capitol. They all start with basically a rumor usually started when the event occured then explore it and in then end come up with absolutely nothing. The only benefit of this show is some historical trivia, the rest of it is bunk.

Get this one too, it's probably in the business management section. I'll loan you mine if you like.

ETA: Patton rocks! I wish we had him and MacArthur around today.

Thanks but it would cost to much to send it back and forth they will have it.
and your right if we have them, things would be so so much different today and all the tomorrows to come. We need leadership in the worst way in this day and time!!!!! And we are sure not getting it! Sorry didn't mean to get on a new rant and on my soap box. As I get older I find myself doing that more..........
