308 winchester - The Rifleman's work horse
Well all I can say is 308 Winchester has been my favorite go to rifle caliber for some time
Below is the Red Boa (formerly ole Blue) built by none other than X-Ring
I don't know how many rounds its had down the pipe...I've probably put a 1000 down here since purchasing it in 2010...Barrel had been set back once already before I purchased it....That's a lot of ammo for you folks that luv the barrel burners
She's still got it....Good ole Remington 700

But since I aint been showing no luv to my other toys as of late....I figured I'd take em out for a spin.
Below is the first ever bolt action rifle I ever held...given to me by wife for Christmas about 1994 I guess
A lil ole Remington Model 7....she's smoked a many a piece of deer meat...Changed out a scope on her this year...to a Lowly 3-10 Leupold....She's still lights out with Nosler Ballistic tip 150's.....

Last but not least is a Custom Remington 700 built by Thomas Bullock at Surplus City
Remington 700 action Trued of course...McMillan A4 stock PacNor 1:12 twist....she oughta be a shooter but she's got me baffled at 300 yards......
I've found tons of one hole groups at 100...but not at 300....and that's the goal
I still luv shootn her though....would luv to try her in FPR but she won't make it on barrel length and weight...
So there you have it...just a few of my 308's...need to get Alton to built me a FPR gun one day I guess....hope ya'll enjoyed the trip to .308 land....

I've got 2 of them. Both of mine are stock right now. I'm growing to appreciate it more and more. I'll be trying one out on the fearsome deer population this fall. Would like to add one more in M1A or AR flavor!

Re: 308 winchester - The Rifleman's work horse
Did some load testing this afternoon at the redneck 289 range....wind was a lot better than yesterday
I now have 5 loads that will shoot an inch or less at 289 yards with the Bullock 308....things are lookin up...Finally got some VLD's to shoot for me
Funny how it goes...the more you shoot the better you shoot...
I need to practice on some critters now

Re: 308 winchester - The Rifleman's work horse
'Neck,
Rifles look great. I love the .308, too. I gave mine a little exercise at Magnolia this past week -- first daylight that it had seen in a while. I have a Rem 700 Tactical. Shot well up to the 300 yards, even with a Leupold 9x power scope --- way too little scope for that rifle!
Can anyone recommend a good, hi power scope for the .308? How bout in the $200-$300 range? There are so many out there; I just don't know if they can handle the recoil.

Love .308 myself.
Don't shoot it much anymore, but I prize my old Savage Model 99 chambered in .308.

I've got the next best thing to a .308; two .30-06's ... one is a Ruger MKII, Thomas Bullock installed a Timney trigger and a Hogue OverMolded stock and a Browning A-Bolt composite stalker with a Boss. A .308 is on my short list of rifles to have.

Re: 308 winchester - The Rifleman's work horse
I got my first .308 this year, a Springfield Armory M1A Standard.
I already upgraded the sights to National Match & was hitting a 12" steel plate at 300yds yesterday pretty consistently.
I hope to ad a Basset mount & nice glass next year.
I hope to add a HB bolt action .308 as well to my stable.
I have some AP rounds from the CMP in 30.06 can anyone tell me if the bullets can be pulled & reloaded for the .308?
