Latest duracoat project.

Post by Lt.Dan on Sun Oct 30, 2011 8:22 pm

I'm getting more duracoat done so I figured I'd post my latest. This is my wife's XD that needed a bit of work. Went flat black and polished the barrel a little, I love polished internals, makes it much smoother. Anyway, here's what came of it.

During.

After.

I think I needed another coat tho.

That does look good. Duracoat is some purdy stuff. Not to mention it beats the crap out of most factory finishes.

Thanks everyone. The wife likes it because it is a little rougher and she can grip the slide better. Not too bad tho.

NICE! What kind of prep work was involved?

I tend to go overboard. And coming from an automotive background I believe the prep work is what makes the paint perfect. I sand with a medium to fine grit flexible block then a scotch pad. Then I go to the buffing wheel and try to get a mirror shine on everything to get all the metal imperfections out. Then I get the 2000 grit paper and rough up the surface so the coating will stick. Then it's a dip in the mil-spec primer/degreaser and a wipe with a lint-free cloth. Then onto paint.

Prep does make the paint! Definitely paid off, I spent no time on prep for my m70 and when I painted it, it looked like crap!
