Common sense Sheriff, unafraid to admit his department can't stop every crime. At some point, people have to step up to protect their family and themselves.

He seems like a good guy, the Sheriif that is. It's a shame that poor lady didn't have a gun. I bet she's thinking like Mr. Mikell now.... "I wish I had a .38 special!"

I was shocked by the responses to this on one of our local channels on Facebook. Shocked by the ignorance to the fact that it's even legal to do here, and shocked by the suggestion of required training and mental checks.

Finally a Sheriff telling it like it is. And he actually trust the law abiding citizens to arm and protect themselves! I'll just bet he wouldn't want to stick a big ole shinny badge on concealed carriers to identify who has or does not have a firearm on them!

this is bumped from awhile ago.....

have not heard anything about Sheriff Chuck Wright running for office this time around. thought he may have after the positive publicity from this event

If everyone was armed, no one would be mugged. Every attorney and police officer I know insists that everyone should at least keep one gun at home and another in the car
