Hello all,
The Southwest Gun Club of McComb, MS will host a High Power Service Rifle Match this Saturday, November 5th, 2011, at the Bogue Chitto range. The course of fire will be the NRA 50 rd National Match course; those wishing to fire the 80 rd course may do so if they may be paired with another shooter in the pits to pull the additional stages. The course of fire is below.
Please confirm if you are planning to come; I will keep a close eye on the weather and will send out at least one additional email, no later than Friday afternoon / Friday evening. Please check your email and if you are uncertain call before driving to the range. Likewise I need to know how many plan to come, if there will be insufficient attendance I will cancel the match. If we make a minimum of 6 competitors I will conduct the match.
Please let me know if you will need to purchase .30 cal ammunition for use in M1 or 1903 rifles for the match. The club will no longer offer .223 ammunition for the matches.

I would be there if we weren't having the "Casting Party" on that day. I would encourage everyone to go and shoot this match. I will be there for the December match.

I will be there. Again, I'll take anyone from the metro area that wants to go.
The Match is a "GO"
OK, we have enough competitors and the weather is supposed to be great, 45 degrees to start and clear and 70 for a high. If anyone has questions or needs directions please contact me. I will be at the range by 8:00am, we want to start relay one at 9:00. Hope to see you all there!

Going to be a beautiful day for sending shots downrange! Come on out guys! If this is your first XTC match, don't be shy about coming out - we run it pretty casually compared to some ranges (except for line & pits safety - I am strict with that and no apologies) and we will help you with get through shooting the course of fire.

eight so far, unless der Teufelshund brings a few more . . .the team Hello Kitty rep will be shooting for the first time since May, he´s finally recovered from the gout in his foot. Der Junge hasn't decided if he wants to sleep late or come to the match, his sister will be home from MSU and he may stay home to visit with her.

I'll do that when I load up some ammo at Doug's - already planning to do that Thanksgiving week when I am off from w*rk - but I'm not even gonna think about it with 45-yr old delinked MG ball ammo at 600. That would not be pretty.SubGunFan wrote:Scharfschütze wrote:And I'll bring my "new" 1903A3 for show 'n tell.

I think you are in the Garand mindset, an 03A3 can shoot anything, grab some commercial ammo off the shelf.

You all were right. Magnolia's Garand match is next weekend, the 12th. The match at Sherman Hills in Forest is on the 12th also, but not until 1:00 p.m. I guess you could shoot both if you were so inclined.
Scores for SWGC Service Rifle Match
Here are the results. Rock River Arms should sponsor our club for matches; all of the AR rifles were RR National Match rifles. At 600 the Bogue Chitto wind demons were laughing at the competitors; still some nice scores:
Special congrats to DevilDog for catching on so quickly and rising to the top! "Ed Schultz" also represented Team Hello Kitty very well after a 6 month absence . . .
It was a beautiful day and I want to thank everyone for coming out - and tell the rest who are reading this to come out and shoot an XTC match! As always contact me if you need more info or just have questions.

Front sight was not touched today. Thought I was going to pop the rear sight out of the base though, I was coming up so much at the 600.
Another great day today. Weather was perfect. Thanks to everyone.

Re: Update: Results & photos of HP Service Rifle Match this Saturday, Nov. 5th at SW Gun Club
I had a ton of fun today.
It definitely won't be my last time at the across-the-course match.
In spite of bringing up the rear, I have to pat myself on the back a bit for my offhand score. That was my personal best OH with a Garand, best I can recall, and was the day's best.
600 yd. prone just killed me. I had 6 complete misses, in spite of having a few 10s and 9s. If those misses had just been bottom-of-the-barrel 5s that would've been another 30 points on my score.
Gotta work on that!
STILL had a helluva a time.
Thanks Phillip Z. and the other SWGC guys.
