Moisin Nagant 91/30 recoil pad
Seen a few pads on line, all with mixed reviews. Anyone have one on there MN? I think a soft rubber pad would be better than a hard pad.

There s a bunch of junk out there as far as recoil pads.I bought a recoil pad and ended up having to cut and drill a bit to soften it up

do yourself a favor and stay away from the hard recoil pads; IMHO they're worthless.
If you really need the recoil pad you may want to look into either a Limbsaver or a Butler Creek.
I don't know why, but something about the kick of a Mosin Nagant just feels....right.

What he said - and, it's part of the charm. Just become one w/ the gun and "take your lickin' and keep on tickin' (OK, I stole that from Timex

I know! My excuse is that I'm old and got a bad back. After 20 rounds I feel it but I will not quit shooting it yet!

I really dont want a recoil pad, but lots of other people will be shooting the nagant im working on now and i dont want them scared off from the hobby. Its being mildy sporterized and the barrels cut down so its far from original. Probably going to get a flash hider as well (really will need one, barrel is 17.25") Neither my m44 nor 91/59 carbines have pads on them, and they will stay that way.

I might add to this thread---don't shoot a mosin from a bench!! Your just asking for it!!! Prone, sitting or standing is the way to go.
shooting from a bench will tell you what your rifle can do.
shooting from field positions will tell what YOU can do!!!
Big difference!!!!!!!!

I found a "Limbsaver" at Dicks Sporting Goods in Madison for about $35 bucks... ouch! Then I drove over to WallyWorld lookin' for ammo and spotted a Winchester recoil pad hanging on the rack next to the ammo case. Looked closer and it was made by Limbsaver! ONLY $14 bucks and I couldn't tell any difference because I opened both packages in the stores. I guessed and bought the small size and it fit tight on the stock without slipping off. I recommend measuring the height of your butt plate then measuring the pad at the store to get a close fit. I used mine in the Garand High Power Match last Saturday at Magnolia and walked away without so much as a sore shoulder. I'd check those out before spending the big bucks elsewhere.
