has anyone tryed to load muzzleloading sabots in the 500 S&W

It may be a dumb idea but I think loading sabots in a 500 could be fun. You could load fast lighter bullets and cut the kick down. Not that I mind the kick, but after 50 or so rounds, well you know. Plus the bullets would be a lot cheaper and you can get boat tail muzzleloader bullets for longer shots than the 500 has now. More like the 460, a best of both thing. I have found that when you try to get the best of both you sometime get the worst of either.
Would you go with .40, .44, or .45 bullets? One person said that muzzleloader sabots are .507 to .510 in size therefore to large for the S&W. I have found some that are .502 to .504. Here http://www.mmpsabots.com/
My big worry is the sabot getting hung in the brake of my MGM Encore barrel. What do you think?
I did do this with the 45lc in a 'tender and used load data for a round that was a 44 necked down to a 41. I don't know where to start to find the data for the 500 but I would start with a light .500 bullet load and work my way up.
Well what do you think? I know it can be done but would it be worth the time? I may do it just for the giggles. But the sabot getting hung is my hold up.

this way I can shoot the 40's and leave no rifling marks muah-hahaha

I am about to try and load some 50 caliber sabots w/ 45 250 grain bullets for my H&R rifle. I don't see why it wouldn't work. I would think it would be the same as a muzzle loader.

The jacketing on ML bullets are different from pistol bullets. At higher speeds you might get jacket seperation.

These are Hornady flex-tip. The same used in 450 bushmaster. I am going to use Harvester sabots.

The main issue would be accuracy. I have read a number of forums on the subject. Some people say that it would work and some said no. I don't know why it wouldn't work and be at least as accurate as a muzzle loader. The only difference is that they are loaded in brass instead of pushed down a barrel. If you don't put a heavy crimp where it builds up to much pressure, one would think that it would be a good load.

True; BUT, the accelerator line was a .308 chamber shooting a saboted .223 bullet at very high speed. A large bullet at a lower speed should do better.

Plus, some people freak when a rifle doesn't shoot sub-moa out to 600-800 yards. But for deer all one needs is a 2"-4" moa at 100 yards to be effective out to 200 yards.

A 20 gauge & 12 gauge slug gun shooting a sabot can be very accurate out to a good ways. A .500 chamber shooting a saboted .452 bullet should be as accurate as either of them.
