Had a similar experience with my 444 marlin a couple months back... definitely agree that memory is funny like that.

+1. I'm planning to shoot my primitive weapon a few times tomorrow and I'm not looking forward to it.

I shot my 45/70 handi rifle today for the first time, don't see what all the fuss is about.... Recoil wasn't that bad. Not a whole lot different than a hot surplus load out of one of my nagants. Didn't bother me at all.

A buddy of mine hated shooting his 45-70 but it never bothered me. But my 760 pump in 270 win puts a whooping on me like no other. Go figure? I'm hoping to sight my H&R 35 Whelen in soon, hoping its not a punisher.

Good luck with that, I had a tc pro hunter in 35 and it kicked like a mule so im sure the handi will kick worse.

Yeah those TC Pro Hunters with a 35 Whelen don't play. Hold on is all the advice I can give.

Dialed in my Prohunter with 35 Whe barrel couple weeks ago...Recoil no biggie...Course I shoot 300 Weatherby Mag for grins
Now I'm working on me a 7mm-08 load for the TC
Might hunt the Prohunter all season..My 300 Win mag and 308 aint gonna be happy
Hope ya'll kill lots of does during special prim weapon...I'm tired of dodging them on the road...

Hr with a thumbhole stock seems to kick twice as hard as a standard stock .

Friend of mine bought an H&R .35 Whelen. I don't remember the recoil being too bad, of course, I only shot it twice!

See I shot another friends pro hunter in 35 wh last year and it wasn't that bad either. So maybe its just a different kind of recoil? Doesn't effect some as much as others? I don't know but I'll find out soon enough I reckon.

Sorry fella, but that made me laugh. I'm hoping I never get the ole "scope eye/nose" ever again. I put a Nikon buckmaster on it with pretty good eye relief so maybe I'll survive.

Ima probably sight it in with the lead sled and shoot it a time or two without to get a good feel for it then its only shot for meat and potatoes after that.

It's just that particular rifle. Never had any other rifle "kick" like it does. Like I said the pro hunter in 35 whelen and the H&R 45-70 did not bother me. If its just that bad I'll either put a brake on it or go get a Pro Hunter 375 H&H

45-70 seems too slow of a push to be bad. The .444 is a little worse but the .500 S&W handi I had a while back was just misery.
I had a doe in the cross hairs with my .444 yesterday and it clicked. I must not have held the trigger down, and the safety connector screwed me. Didn't even dent the primer.
