Mystery Shotgun.

Post by Mr.Buttersworth on Sat Nov 05, 2011 5:24 pm

I had the chance to work on a family heirloom a while back and I cannot recall the model of it and I was hoping some of you might have a clue what I am talking about. It was for sure a Ruger 12 gauge pump made in the 1930's. It had an external hammer and the breech opened like the marlin lever actions of the day. I doubt I will ever see the gun again. It was one of the prettiest shotguns Ive ever seen!

Ruger wasn't founded until 1949..You sure it wasn't a winchester 1897?

I too think it is a '97. Isn't the '97 the only pump with an exposed hammer....?

I have one of those old Marlins (actually I have one and half of those old Marlins). After reading up on them I decided I wasn't going to shoot mine. I need to hang it over the mantle or something.
