I have a chance to get a carcano cheap
I have a chance to pick up a Beretta 6.5 Carcano on the cheap with a bunch of ammo. It has already had a trip over bubas bench and has been sporterized. I am thinking about getting it for my daughter as a plinker. I here that they have very little kick. My question is to you much more experienced guys out there, what do you think about this rifle, and what do you think would be the best way to mount a scope. I was thinking about a sks type scout scope mound do to the need for the clips to function.

It was good enough for Oswald! Sporterized versions were the norm back in the 60's but finding a mount today may be a problem. I'd leave it as is, shoot up ammo and sell it to the next one. These rifles aren't known for accuracy... unless fired in Dallas. I've only handled one, never fired it, but I think the clip is necessary, it drops out the bottom when empty.

I found a post on Cabelas forum that says the Numrich (www.e-gunparts.com) Item #540380 scope mount for the Savage 325/340 is suppose to be a close replicia for the Japanese scope mount Oswald used. You have to bend it out slightly and rotate the scope counter clock wise and use the windage adjustment as your elevation and the elevation as your windage adjustment(Oswald did the same thing) and you can still use the clips. Not but $22.40 for the scope mount, you might try that and not be out much money.

I used to shoot them years ago, battle accuracy was about all we could get (chest shot at 100) somewhere!
