Need help sighting in my scope in Jackson area
Well my gun and scope are very capable of hitting in 2-3 inch at 100 yards but spent all day and couldn't get close to 3in.I'm willin to pay for someone to line me up. Never had this much trouble with a scope. The rings and base are tight, scope is a Nikon pro staff.

I can meet you down at magnolia one afternoon this week. I do not have a heavy rest to use though, only a bipod or some foam on top of a 50cal ammo can. I keep a laser bore sighter in my range bag now too.

Me and my buddy will be there most of the day Wednesday shooting his AR and maybe my .257. Probably some pistol too. I'd be happy to help out.

we need to pm that guy with the shooting rest he made. Its called the Grouper. He said if we could get a couple guys up to look at it we could use it and sight our rifles in. Its an awesome sled, but it ain't cheap.

In addition to working on your scope... you did not mention the magnification and objective size...type of reticle...
I'd suggest you bring 4 or 5 different types of ammo....ie diff bullets weights etc...you might just find one magic one that tightens up nice
just shoot for group first...then move the whole group by adjusting scope

Second what 'neck said.
Just because the rifle won't group better than 3" doesn't necessarily mean anything is wrong with the scope, or with the rifle, for that matter.
Maybe it just doesn't like the particular ammo you're feeding it. My Ruger M-77 7mm mag. is like that. Doesn't like heavy 7 mag. loads like 160-165 gr. Shoots best with 140 gr. loads, as far as factory ammo is concerned.

The problem is when I adjust the scope to compensate(left or right) for my 1st group,it seems the grouping stays the same

BTW!!
When I attempted to sight in I was @ 100yards using Factory Core Lkts 150 grain. Then I attempted with some 160 grain ballistic grain hand loads, but with the same result. My scope elevation was dead on, but was 3-4 inch left. When I adjusted the scope I got the same results(3-4 in to the left, but dead on the middle)The scope is a brand new Nikkon Pro Staff 4x9x40 I think?Rifle is a Savage 110 300 win mag.

Re: Need help sighting in my scope in Jackson area
I generally use 180 Grain bullets on a 300 Win...to my knowledge 180's are kinda the standard in 300 Win
But who knows....I would have tried several kinds of ammo
If you adjusted the scope and shot another group and its in same place....the scope is not moving as it should....that's a lot of recoil on an "economy scope"
I'd still suggest lettn someone else shoot it to see if they can replicate the problem...
I'm avail Sat
