If somebody gave me 0 or 00 I'd shoot it but if I'm going to be buying I'm going to buy #1 or #4 because of the increase in lead you get. There is much less wasted space with the smaller pellets.

I use #4 for HD (outdoor or longer distance) simply because of the larger number of projectiles - 32 IIRC - which are all approximately .35 cal. So one round of 2 3/4 #4 buckshot puts 32 9mm lead balls downrange. That's a lot.
For the indoor HD I still load birdshot: at close range it is devastating yet won't penetrate the walls with enough force to injure family members.

Ummm...... #4 is only about .24 caliber. 000 would be about .35 cal.

1 oz of buck shot is 437gr
there is roughly 21 pellets of #4 per ounce.. each pellet weights in at 21gr.
moving 1200 fps each pellet will impact with less than 70ftlbs
0 buck has roughly 9 pellets per oz.. each weight 48grs and will impact at 153ftlbs each
