bushmaster superlight carbine w/red dot

Post by spmwheels on Tue Nov 08, 2011 12:50 am

I'm just curious if anyone can tell me anything about this gun opinion's? pros/cons? I'm looking at getting one but want to make sure there isn't something else out there that I'm missing. I will be changing a few parts out on this gun unless I find another one that has the parts on it already that I'm looking for. The specs I want on an AR would be a 4 railed fore-end so that i'm able to put a vertical grip and laser on it I also want it to be flat top with red dot sight and adjustable butt-stock but I also want a light weight rifle. And I would like to keep the price tag under 950.00. If there is a rifle that I'm over looking that fits these specs I would greatly appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction. Thanks

Steven.

Being so light, wonder what heat it could absorb and transfer from the barrel (if some the weight is coming the barrel)? Someone with more knowledge can correct me if I'm wrong. If you're shooting with some rest time mags between it is a non-issue.

Look at the DPMS Super Lite. I've been preaching liteweight AR's for years. Unless you are going full auto the heavy barrels are not needed. Plus when you have to carry one around every day for months at a time you start looking for 20 round magazines and any other way to lighten your load.

I have 3 of these on the shelf at work, they are the Bushmaster Carbon-15s. All polymer upper and lower with a thinner profile sporter barrel. The buttstock is smaller as well. They are extremely light but I think over time the upper and lower will become loose and I would be afraid of the polymer getting weird after a lot of heat cycles. If you are just doing some nutria hunting or small game then I think it would work well but if you are going to be doing any heavier shooting (more than 100 rounds at a time) I think you would be better off with something else. Our retail on the rifle with red dot and everything is $686 where our base Bushmaster A3 goes for $899. I couldn't believe how light the Carbon-15 is though.

i had the carbon 15 and it was a great gun but the red dot was to big at 50 yards so took it off and put a scope on it . it shot good groups to. never shot over 50 rounds at once so no answer on how many at once. but for price and weight i thank its a good deal.

hey wheels, we can get em as well... they are SUPER light! but the barrel is tiny. if it is an occasional shooter, it would be fine. if i were to buy an AR i would not be afraid to get one, and have actually been contemplating it. not sure why the polymer would do anything wierd from heat. arent glocks polymer? would work fine for what you are talking. swap out the forend for a quad rail and you will be good to go. think they go for $750 at the store?

if i can help you, you know where to find me. Wink

I stock these as well. If you want to check one out, I will have 3 or 4 with me at the gun show in jackson this weekend. I sell them for $699.99 plus tax I believe
