J Frame suggestions
I'm in the mood for a J Frame just because I don't have one. What do y'all recommend that's light, concealable and caliber?

Smith airweight, hands down. Very light, and its a s&w. Ive had the chance to sell mine for way more than i have in it several times and turn them down every time.

Ok.....not a j frame per se, but similar size and weight and much better price than most smiths, and only slightly more expensive($50 on a bad day) than your standard smith 642. I've been very impressed with my Ruger LCR in .357
It feels like a toy, so you know when you're shooting full house .357 loads, but it's still very tolerable, supposedly much more so than your average s&w j-frames, but I can't speak for the smiths
Also, it's been in production for a couple years now so the accessories have caught up with it.
With the standard hogue grip it's a pretty beefy grip but feels soooooo good,

But with the boot grip it's still very manageable and hides much better in the pocket,

Or if you're willing to go up slightly in grip and barrel size, but keep a compact frame, then I've gotta brag on the Ruger SP101 I just gave my fiancé last weekend,

Still very concealable, even in a pocket, and it's heavier so it handles hot SD .357 loads like a champ!

I recently picked up an S&W Bodyguard .38. It gives you five shots of .38 special, is hammerless, has a lazer, and good factory grips. The barrel and frame are metal, but the trigger guard and everything behind the cylinder are that high strength plastic. Very light and easy to conceal, but also shoots and handles well.

If this is going to be strictly a carry gun, like most J frames and the like, I'd go with a hammerless DAO gun. 642 or LCR or similar. The exposed hammer can be bad to hang up in a pocket, purse, etc. I went with the 638 airweight with a shrouded hammer. It wont hang up but can still be fired in single action. My girlfriend has since claimed it to keep in her car.

Re: J Frame suggestions
my 642 was nice. but i also have the LCR. trigger is waaay better on the LCR.
im not one to modify a carry gun AT ALL, so the nice trigger was a welcome feature.
that said, gary's pawn in columbus had 642s for sale last time i was in there a month or so ago for 319 + tax brand new.

I like my 442 (hell, I like all black guns) but wouldn't mind trading into the LCR If the trigger is that much better. + I'd have 357 instead of .38+P

Another vote for the LCR. I recently picked up one in .357. I love the trigger.

The 642/442 is about as good as it gets for a pocket gun. Super reliable, nothing to snag on the draw and they leave enough room in the pocket to draw even in jeans.

Model 49,649,442,642,
you cant go wrong with any of the above as long as it does not come with a lock..
