Shooting Division ?
Is there any division or class for hunter weight rifles, less than 10lbs. I would like my next build to be one that I could hunt and shoot competitions with. However, I don't want to enter in FTR and be shooting against someone with a 18lb rifle. I have never shot in or seen a rifle competition so please excuse my ignorance.

Don't quote me on it, but I think there's a division of F-class that's like what you describe.
Maybe one of the regular X-class participants like msredneck will chime in here.

Yes we have a Field Precision Rifle Class, go to the f-class section and look at the sticky on Recognized classes.

While we are kicking this around , is there any chance of getting a semi-auto military style rifle class such as AR's and M1A's ?

I believe you can shoot those in FPR. As a matter of fact, I think you can shoot them in other classes but you'd have to load one at a time.
I THINK. I'm not sure. I have trouble remembering the F-Open stuff.
Ah ain't reel schmart.

Its just fun to go shoot. Dont worry bout what class or anything. Bill puts me in whatever class he wants. I enjoy shootin too much to worry about the small stuff.
My first F-Class match i used my R700 SPS in 270. It shoots horrible when the barrel gets hot but still fun.
Ended up using my 300WM the next couple times. Then my 22-250. And finally used my R700 AAC-SD .308.
Won a couple medals, but had a blast even when i didnt.
