Revelation 101
So the other day I was looking at .22lr bolt single shots for my 7 year old to shoot. I really liked the Savage that wally world carries a lot. So it is my orginal choice, but not the final.
I get home and remember my old bolt .22 I learned to shoot on is in a gun sock in the back of the gun safe and been outta action for about 25-26 years. I wasn't even sure of the make of the gun. I graduated to it from shotguns for small game hunting way back. If memory serves me right it was a shooter as I only had open sights and didn't have trouble killing squirrels with it. The reason it was taken out of commission was a broken firing pin, dad was gonna get it fixed but instead it got pushed to the side somehow and I got a Remington Speedmaster 552 and the rest is history. The 552 is still my go to .22 today.
Ok fast forward to the present I get the old rifle out. It had some surface rust on it but stock was immaculate and the bore was bright and clean. I disassmbled it and sure as shootin found the broken firing pin. So I start cleaning up the gun to get some manufacturing info. It is a Revelation 101 made by Savage to be sold through Western Auto stores. It is the exact same rifle as a Savage 63-73 model. I went ahead and ordered a firing pin from Numrich and bought a spare outta Texas off Gunbroker, just waiting to see which gets here first.
After cleaning it up a good bit of the bluing was gone from the surface rust I removed with steel wool, so I took it all the way to the metal and duracoated it. I just stuck the receiver back in the stock for a pic. Just waiting in the firing pin to put her back togther and see if she goes bang. I already had a extra scope and rings that fit on it but gonna run a some rounds through with the iron sights to check out the accuracy before I get to deep into it. I hoping it is a good shooter and can serve its purpose again.
The things I really like about it is that it has a youth stock, when you work the bolt it moves the safety back into the safe position and it is single shot single load no magazine or clip. You learn to make that first one count.

Cool.
There's nothing quite like an old single shot .22 to play around with.
Having to take your time and load 'em one at a time just seems to be more fun for some reason.

Re: Revelation 101
I will put some more up tonight, there is one pic on my original post. Good news is firing pin came in the mail today and I got her all put back together. I ran 20rds of Wolf Match through it grouped good and then I let my son put a 50rds of CCI down the pipe and he loved it. The gun grouped well with the Wolf, it held a quarter size group at 25 and 50 yds which I didn't think wasn't to bad with the wind quartering across the my shooting lane. I will be scoping it tonight and will put up a updated pic. My seven year old was all smiles so it was worth the effort getting this old gun running again.
