Anybody have any opinions on the Colt/Umarex 1911 .22lr?
Saw a Colt/Umarex 1911 .22lr today for $399.00. It was beside a chiappa ($329) a GSG ($359) and a Sig ($379) ...all 1911 .22lrs. The Colt did seem to feel better than the chiappa and as good or slightly better than the GSG/Sig. It also had the best finish (in my opinion)
I had done a little research before of 1911 .22lr's and it seemed that the general consensus was the chiappa/puma is not very good.....the Sig is a rebranded GSG but it does seem to get mostly favorable results. Did not know much about the Colt....seems to be fairly new and I can't find out much. So far it seems
1) Made by Walther in Germany for Colt and imported by Umarex (quite a mouthful)
2) Has 12 round mag. (others have 10)
3) Does not need allen wrench or tools to field strip (GSG/Sig does)
5) Fixed barrel (not sure about the others)
Anybody own one of these or can tell me any more about the Colt?

Thanks. A couple of quick questions.
Is it ammo picky? I already have a lot of bulk federal I need to shoot up
Do you know much about the quality of build with the colt? I hear and see alot of talk about "pot metal" esp with the chiappa/puma ones.
Is the colt made from better materials?

Do a little research on umarex before you spend any money, wish i had. Your post about made by walther is wrong, they are made by umarex. The walther p22 i had thats made by them was a major piece of crap. It was non functional out of the box, had to go back right away. Happiest day of my life so far is when i got rid of it a few days after it came back from s&w. Umarex is a paintball and airsoft company, most all of their guns and parts are made from cast zinc aka potmetal. That stuff has next to no structural integrity and has no place what soever in a firearm, even a lowly 22.

not to disagree with you, you are probably right but on the gun itself it says"imported by Umarex made by carl walther germany"

I have not seen one of the guns in question, but if it says umarex on it anywhere RUN away. Much better guns out there, often for less money. If its got umarex on it chances are very very good they made it. I probably would not take a free one of their guns, i would feel bad about selling it. When i get my ffl, i will never carry a product from them.

There is a guy on another forum that builds 1 pc guide rods for the GSG, and 14 rd follows for the magazines that he sells on GunBroker.
I have a Wilson Combat slide but would just assume have a GSG complete gun.

Just for s**t tonight....ran a box of 50 Winchester wildcats...the crappiest ammo I could lay my hands on.
Had one Failure to eject and that was caused by a burr on the rim....
Slide rides smooth...like a babies ass...weight nice and hefty...I'd swear I would not know I was holding a 1911 until I press the trigger...
Is it gonna be as reliable as my Ruger Mark II that has 30K rounds thru it without even cleaning....doubt it....
But its good enough for a turtle plinker for me...These are a fairly new item I believe...would I recommend you run out and buy one....I dunno...But i took a chance...and i have shot worse...much worse
Ya'll know I have little tolerance for cheap guns that don't run

I got the GSG, it is awesome. I havnt had any failures with it. The mags for the gsg are a little expensive but built like tanks.

well judge for yourself. I bought the gun used

Like I said before, I have been happy and it is a relatively new item. So no hate mail if you buy one and its a POS.
Personally the Ruger Mark II is my favorite 22 pistol....Next might be a bull barrel Mark III
But so far the Colt has a place at the house...its good to practice with and it has the same feel balance and weight wise as my other 1911's

I selll the tactical version with the light rail and adjustable sights for $369.00 + tax. It's the only one I stock as it fit's the focus of my shop.
Fit and finish is very nice. One of my customers always has me take the new weapon apart for a total strip and clean before he takes a it home. It add's anther $50.00 to the price of his weapons which is ok by me. His thing is no packing grease or oil from the factory on them which is a good thing imo. These are fantastic inside and out. Like Neck say's you won't know it's not a 45 till you pull the trigger.
None of my customers have had anything but praise for the weapon.
Umarex is only the importer.
Anoyher plus is all your 1911 gear works with them so you can train, train, train cheaply. Especially good for those that ccw a 1911.
