Moisin Nagant 91/30 range report.

Finally got to the range today. Fired 20 rounds of FulAmmo 148 gr fmj. Had two problem rounds that were tough to get the bolt closed. I found two casing that had a small split below the neck, could of been the same rounds but not sure, other casings I checked had no splits in the casing. The rifle fired well and I was hitting targets at 100 yds and 150 yrds with open sights shooting offhand. About the extent of my old eyesight. Grouping was about a 8in circle, I think a better shot would of got a smaller grouping. Has anybody else had casings split or is this common with russian ammo?

in my experience with the surplus ammo, i have also had a few split cases and have been told that it is not uncommon to have a few every now in then in the surplus tins. the only other thing i could think of would be the headspace??

the bolt not closing may indicate a headspace problem.

Have not shot my 91/30s very much; however, I have not noticed any split cases --- BUT - I usually do not inspect each fired case ..... should not be a real problem provided your spent primers look ok .....

I split some 30-40 Krag the other day with a VERY mild load (130 gr cast - 12 gr Unique) ..

Ive fired a couple of hundred rounds through various carbines and one 91/30, ammo ranged from wolf to ancient polish(i think) surplus... never a split case from any of them in 5 different guns.

Haven't shot my Mosins much but I have not noticed any split cases in the Romanian surplus that I've shot.
