Load for H&R 357 Handi-Rifle

Post by TimeKiller911 on Fri Nov 11, 2011 2:53 pm

Just bought a Handi-Rifle in .357 magnum for my daughter to deer hunt with. Does anyone have a recommendation as far as to what ammo would be best?

YOu gonna reload? Or just buy factory ammo?

Handi Rifles can be finicky about what they shoot well. I tried all of the "performance" ammo with no real shooter in the bunch. Winchester white box grouped consistantly though so that is what I shoot. Better to hit it with a marginal piece of lead than miss with the best performer in the store.

If you reload you ca pick a bullet and play with powders to get the consistancy.

My son shoots 15.9 grains of 2400 in his with a 158 grain soft point, never shot any factory ammo in it. The barrel on his gun has been cut down to 16-1/4ish and I put a youth stock on it with a 2-7 Nikon. It's not a tackdriver but It'll shoot an inch at 50 yards, not sure what it does at 100.

Double Tap 200gr. wfngc look them up on ctd that's what I use. Atleast for now, I just got my loads from limaspector gonna hopefully try them out tomorrow but the double taps work great out of my gun. The only problem with them is the price but that's expected with good ammo.

i was thinking the double tap or leverevolution. don't mind spending a little extra Steven, she's already programmed into the one shot one kill idea.
