Re: Glock accidents

I have owned and shot Glocks since the 80's. Never one jam or problem in many tens of thousands of rounds. I reload on a Dillon 550 and the Glocks like it. Various models in 9mm, .40 and .45

and my 4th Generation model 17 runs 100% and is the most accurate Glock I own contrary to the net says..

YMMV

most seem to be AMMO related just like the others that go kaaboom. If there are Millions being shot everyday as compared to Thousands, there will be more problems reported, but if you turn that into percentages, it will be nearly unseen.
I'd bet that over 90% percent of "shooters" own atleast one glock because they work and everybody knows it. The 10% that don't are the ones hate the looks or feel of the polymer gun and they are surely in the minority.
BTW, you can find just about anything on the net if you look.

I've been shooting Glocks for quite some time and am more impressed with the engineering that goes into them than any other auto. The Sigs are impressive but way too complicated. The Glock is currently the best blend of simplicity and reliability. When you're the top dog you'll attract more bad press than anybody else. I trust my Glocks more than any of my other pistols.

That's saying something, because Lord only knows how many guns you've bought and sold here over the years

I wanted to stir up a conversation about the Glock. I personally don't like polymer handguns and the Glock trigger is not for me either. I was not trying to bash anyone's likes or dislikes in handguns. Just asking a question. There was also a report of a blown up Glock .40 . It was being fired with factory ammo. The pistol apparently fired out of battery and blew the side of the frame off the pistol.

I have multiple Glock 22's both 1st and 2nd gen, have shot all of them 1000's of times with some factory but mostly reloads and have never had even a FTF. Not to say some may have problems, but I feel it may have some underlying issue from operator. Not everyone(even LEO's) take care of their weapon as they should, and no-one is willing to blame themselves these days. I trust my Glocks completely and without any reservation just as much as my Colt 1911A1's.

I've got two G20's and one G30. The older G20 I've had since '92 with hundreds of rounds through it and no issues, both factory and reloads. I've got aftermarket LWD barrels in the G20's now just to be on the safe side, but have had no troubles with the original barrels.

I'm puzzled by all the references to "even LEOs"..........yeah more cops carry a Glock than anyone else, but really, ask any random cop on the street how often he actually practices with his gun. My guess will be at the most just before they have to qualify every year......there are exceptions, like some of our LEOs here, but out of the 5 cops I personally know, only one of them actually made a habit out of goin to the range on a regular basis, and now that he's on up there in age(pushing 80 or so) he's slacked off a bit

I dunno Jake. Every time I go to Turcotte lately, either Ridgeland, or Madison, or Brandon/Flowood LEOs are having a qualifying day, and they are shooting a bunch of dept furnished ammo. Not only that, but half the time I get there right after they open, there are a few LEOs out there just shooting. I happen to live in Ridgeland, where our cops like to shoot BGs and, for some strange reason, that gives me a comfortable warm fuzzy feeling.Smile Some juristictions may not shoot much, but I have to say the counties and municipalities surrounding Jackson shoot a lot. Additionally, I wouldn't mind having any of their Glocks. I watch most of them clean and reload them before they leave the range. These guys have excellent work ethics and always impress me. Most are businesslike, but are pretty nice folks when they have time to sit and talk. I think our Sheriff's dept and local dept are top notch. I'd put them up against anybody and would trust my life to them.Smile

Post by pinetor on Wed Nov 16, 2011 4:46 pm

I just wanted to put out there...
While I posted a link to another thread on the Glock going Kaboom, I would not consider myself a Glock basher. It is very prevalent in this day for many to jump on the bandwagon to bash anything that has gotten "too popular". I don't think was the intent on most here. (to bash glocks)

The other thread tells its own story, and illustrates what I have already been told. That older gen glocks, in order to facilitate more reliable feeding, support less of the casing than was commonly "normal". I will let the more knowledgable Glock shooters deal more accurrately with the "in and outs" of this particular issue.

I do enjoy our discussions, and hope that at the end of the day we recognize that we are all gun nuts and while we each have our pets and currs... we share more than what separates us.

I'm not sure about the 10mm, but I know that the 3rd gen .40 has issues. PD's (or at least their lawyers) are scared of an "incident". Many are switching to other pistols.

Well Damn!! I've avoided Glocks for a many a years and just recently went to the DarkSide with a G19 and have to say I love that lil fella!! That being said there are at least 5 threads over on Arfcom about G19's having issues (major) although I think those are Gen4 G19's...I dunno but something is up with their Quality Control and they are looking at a major PR problem if'n they dont address it.....I dont buy because Law Enforcement uses something, hell they are a Government intety and shop for price!

The barrel redesign changed a few things in the Gen 4 guns. That is why they are a having a few problems here and there. I have full faith they will get the kinks worked out. Glock is like everything else. Occasionally something is going to go wrong, but 99% of the time when you pull the trigger its going to shoot.

I appreciate all weapons, and the only thing I have against glocks is they're not an American company. I like the new S&W line up, however, they could add a little variety to their Autos-they all seem very similar, almost clones. BACK TO GLOCK I'd shoot one with no worries

I've probably got around 15-20k rounds through my G17 with no issues. I do reload and barrel check all my ammo though. Also, I have a storm lake barrel, not the original. I definately trust my glock. I think it's the most dependable gun I own.
