need a small bit of milling, drilling, and tapping done
I've got another AR with the aluminum free-float tube that I'd like to mount a short piece of rail on the bottom side of.
All I'll need done is a small flat about 3" long milled on the horizontal of the underside and a couple of machine screw holes drilled and tapped to attach the rail. I've already got the piece of rail and it will only be for attaching a bipod and a sling adaptor. I don't want to go all "rails-a-go-go" like so many ARs, just enough for two attachment points on the bottom side.
Anyone got any ideas?

I'm thinking the float tube will be to thin to hold if you make it flat for the rail.
When just attaching a sling stud it only hold's with 3 threads.
So a very slight flat will take you down to 2 or a little less threads.

Hmmmm......
Hadn't thought of that.
Thanks for bringing it up. May have to go a different way.

I wouldn't mill the tube flat I would mill the rail. I would also drill the tube and use a backing nuts on the screws.

Yankee Hill and other sale the rails you can put on the free float tube that are curved on the back to match the tube.
Just drill your holes and use bolts and nyloc nuts to keep it from coming loose.

Thanks for the link.
That looks like a better way to go.
