I hear 10/22's have gone through some not so welcome changes in the past few years. Anyone have info on this?

Only change I know of is the trigger guard is polymer now instead of steel, you can get a steel one cheap($25) and change it out if you want to.

Didn't they start threading the receivers?

A few years ago Ruger changed the finish on their 10/22s, but listened to us shooters and went to a polished black finish ( which holds up better than the old finishes) and to a clear coat for the silver receivers.

The Polymer trigger groups were not very well liked, but they are much more consistent and have much better tolerances than the old metal trigger guards.

Ruger is also offering the 10/22 with nicer options than the older gun had. Of course this does not help those of us that sell aftermarket parts. Very Happy

The receivers are not threaded, they accept the same slip in barrels as always.

Good, I knew I had heard something about plastic. Glad to hear it was just the trigger guard.

the trigger guard is now plastic, but the geometry has also slightly changed which makes drop in hammers slightly less efficiant. power custom hammers only drop to 4-5 pounds while volquartsen hammers can still get close to 3 pounds in the plastic trigger guards.
Ruger has also started glueing the barrels into place.

Not really a 10/22 fan so I don't follow them closely. It was the 77/22 that went to a threaded receiver. The 10/22 got glued in barrels. That will hurt some of the after market retailers and those folks who want the ability to go from 22 WMR to 17 HMR.

The Ruger22 site is pretty nicely set up. Very easy to find info.

I guess I have been lucky, of the 100+ new 10/22s I have taken the barrels off of this year none had glued in barrels. thinking

my help site is http://www.Ruger22.com (I could not post it before as I had not been a member here long enough. and don't forget, any question I will be happy to answer. I also have my own forum at http://GunsAndFun.com with some other gunsmiths and experts who are always happy to answer questions (about most any weapon).

I also am a gun dealer ( http://bobsgunstore.com ) but I don't handle any basic 10'22's even though it in my parts store specialty, because I cannot buy a 10/22 from one of my firearm distributors cheaper than you can buy one (even with sales tax added) by going to walmart.
Walmart buys em 10,000 at a time from the factory at a price cheaper than what ruger chargers their own distributors.

Something is wrong with the "bobsgunstore.com" link above, it consistently says
Not Found when you click on it, perhaps its the DNS server at fault since all the
other links work fine.

It picks up the ending parenthasis in the link. When you get the message click in the browser address line and delete the parenthasis at the end. Or go here
