Advise on filling out my ATF forms and the process for a suppressor.

Post by Lt.Dan on Wed Nov 16, 2011 6:14 pm

I am finally ready to take the plunge and the wife actually OK'd it. I have done a search but is there a write up or somewhere I can go that will simplify it? Thanks.

If you have a trust, these will help you fill out for a trust. Form 4 is for transferring/purchasing and a Form 1 is if you are building something yourself(SBR, SBS, machining a silencer). I believe the certification form is needed now as well. I sent it with my last three forms that went out just in case.

I used Nathan at MS Auto Arms in Oxford, MS. He is a lawyer and class 3 dealer(very convenient). You can call him up and talk to him over the phone about the trust as well if you dont have time to visit. He will write one up for $200 and you will be good to go. He has several cans in stock and will transfer for $100. He deals with AAC, SWR, and now silencerco Smile and some others i wont name...

Dan, If your set on going the trust route thats probably a better option in the eyes of most, especially those whose CLEO is apprehensive with title II stuff.

Being that your in Harrison County, Mr. Herman Cox is very gun friendly. He is the Prosecuting Attourney for us. His office is right here in down town Gulfport. He sighned my Form 1 SBR the same day that I dropped it off with his secretary and my my Form 4 suppressor was a one day turnaround. His office secretary was very knowledgeable. I took the forms in duplicate to his office and she says "Is this for a gun thingy". I said "Yes Ma'am" haha. She personally called me the next day to pick up my approved forms.

Just thought maybe I'd save you some time and possible money setting up a trust becasue we dont have to do a trust to bypass the CLEO here in Harrison County.

As per your thread title, my advice would be remember to fill out two forms in duplicate, and two sided. Use walgreens or CVS pahrmacy for the 2x2" passport photos,$8 and wear a nice solid color shirt. Gulfport PD charges $15 for two fingerprint cards (you will need to submit two sets) and I use the ones with the ATF address already printed on them. You can kindly ask the staff at Dad's Super Pawn for them. One last piece of advice, make sure the cop that does you fingerprint cards fills out his info, they forgot to do that once on one of mine.

+1 on 2ALawyer if you can not get your CLEO to sign off

Send forms off then go to sleep like Rip Van Winkle....maybe in 20 yrs the ATF will return your approved form for toys

5 months and counting....

Thanks for the info. Beltfed, are you still on base here? If you are and get a minute I'd like to talk to ya about the process. I was on the ATF site and which forms do I need? 1, 2, 3 and 4? Thanks again everyone.

nope, not on base. Im on ANOTHER deployment. Be home in a week though and I'm sure we will get together sometime...

If your buying a suppressor from a Class III dealer you need to prepare a two sided Form 4 in duplicate (a good dealer should actually prepare the forms for you for the most part) , each signed my Mr Herman Cox. Included will be two finger print cards, two 2x2 passport photos attached via gluestick to each Form 4, one form 5330.20 (Certification of compliance with 18USC922) and last but not least one Check or Postal MO for $200.

Put all this in an envelope and mail it with delivery confirmation to:
BATF&E
NFA BRANCH
PO BOX 530298
ATLANTA, GA 30353-0298

(This was it last time I checked, over a year ago, verify via atf website)

If done properley, your dealer will recieve one returned copy of your Form4 with a stamp attached to it. When that happens go get your new toy.

Ok I will print off all the paperwork (at least 2 copies) and get all filled out. It helps that where I work (Barney's) we are a class 3 dealer and a gemtech dealer haha. Let the process begin.

BE CAREFUL! These things are addictive. I'm currently waiting for suppressors 3 and 4. You can't stop at just one.

So is it $200 each time you fill it out? Or is it $200 for the first and then something else for more? Thanks. I talked to a guy today and he said it would be best to do it under a LLC, which means I would have to go set one up for $50 and then proceed with it. How does that sound?
