Red Dot Type Sight Thoughts?
Awhile back on here there was a discussion about the Hi-Point carbine - reviews seemed OK, so I up and bought one, but without the red dot that's offered. Now I'd like to put one on it and would like to know what y'all would recommend. Don't have time for mail order, so something local and affordable (you can read that as cheap if you'd like) is what I'm looking for. I'm open to all suggestions as it's just a plinker - looked at a Tasco and a BSA at Academy earlier this morning, but don't know red dots from red beans and rice, so I need a little help -

I've had lots of cheap red dots and hated every single one of them. May be I've finally learned my lesson. Then again, may be I just never found the right one. In order to be truly happy with a red dot you'd probably have to go with Aimpoint, EOTech, or Trijicon. Those are no where close to cheap.
If somebody could commend a GOOD budget red dot, I'd love to hear about it too. What about Vortex? Is there a local dealer that stocks them?

I had a Millett on my AR for a while and was pretty happy with it. I believe it was less than $100 from a gun store when I bought it. It's a tube type sight, so it's not quite as fancy as the open ones, but it worked well.

I have a Pro Point on my HP. Works well. THe 995 will not hit hard enough to loose zero. I bought mine from a member here, so not real sure on price, but I figure less than $50.
The tube type will be sturder for use.

I have run a BSA on my Hi-Point it did fine. I recently swapped to a Tasco Pro-Point and it runs just as well. I had some extra Pro-points but recently sold them. I swapped because I liked the smaller tube of the Pro-point.
Never had a problem with either losing zero.

The pro point is a good one. Had one on a Benelli Nova turkey gun. Never lost zero.
