Concealed Carry of Glock 26 with an IWB holster

Post by Evil Zim on Thu Nov 17, 2011 7:42 pm

A good percentage of the time, I wear a suit or jacket so concealed carry of my G26 is with an OWB Galco. However, I've been looking at IWN holsters so it is easier to carry in casual clothes. Two questions:

(1) What IWB holster works well with a G26 based on personal experience, and

(2) How are these effectively carried/deployed? I prefer carrying in the small of the back, but it seems a lot of these are designed to be worn in the front with a tucked in shirt or with an untucked t-shirt. With a tucked in shirt, does this mean having to franticly untuck your shirt to get to it, or is there some particular technique?

Ayoob says grab a handful of shirt and snatch upwards hard. Same for tucked or untucked. I carry a IWB custom made leather holster, but I'm not real happy with it and have just ordered a crossbreed supertuck IWB horsehide holster. I will hopefully get it in 2 weeks. I will let you know how I like it after I get it and try it on for a few days. I carry everyday, but scrubs don't allow for it everyday so Keltec's little clip on the side of the gun works well for me. I carry the Glock 23 most days.

Haven't gotten a proper holster for my new g26, but I'll vouche for the crossbreed.

I'm currently waiting on a new Simply Rugged Cuda with tuckable clips. I've used this same rig(similar at least, since it's the Silverdollar Pancake) with my LCR and it's exceptionally comfortable. I've also used a Simply Rugged Cuda with IWB straps for my Browning Hi-Power, and it's such a heavy gun you can really appreciate the quality of the SR rig.

I've started to prefer OWB carry though, so just a untucked tshirt does fine for me. Tuckable comes in handy for tucked in polos and shirts though, so it's a nice option to have.

If you'll try about 3:00-4:00 position with a proper holster you'll realize what a waste it is trying to carry in the small of your back. Not to mention it really is potentially dangerous if you fall....and God forbid you have to bend over for anything

I do not own a G26, but I do own a 36 which is pretty similar in size. I'm pretty much going to parrot what the others are saying about the Cross Breed holsters. I love them.

Here's a link with a few pics of a guy using the "J-hooks" with his shirt tucked in. I don't normally use this so I won't vouch for it, but it can be done. http://thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=261203

I prefer 3:00-4:00 with an untucked shirt or jacket. I did recently get the "J-hooks" but I haven't tried them out yet. They're a strong holster and they distribute weight pretty well. Very comfortable. They will hide a 36 very well, so I wouldn't think that a 26 will be an issue at all.

Edit: Just for kicks I switched over to the "J-hooks." They work pretty well and do a pretty good of allowing me to tuck the shirt in and hide the gun.

GUys

I either carry my Glock 27 and my Crossbreed Super Tuck Delux, or my Kahr CW9 and my Crossbreed Quick Clip, every day, all day as many of you know I am a big fan of those 2 carry combos, Both work as a standard IWB or a IWB with the tuck, If you choose to tuck, I would recomend practicing, with a safe/empty gun, that takes a little practice.

I don't know if "franticly" would be my choice of words, but clearing your cover garment would be the same, regardless of what you are wearing, or how you are wearing it. Find a holster you like and drill the fire out of it. There are a number of trainers that show a variety of ways to do this. I like this fellow http://www.youtube.com/user/Gomez8136 This may help address your question http://www.youtube.com/user/Gomez8136#p/u/6/nvtdA-KUT-A

Shielded holster for my G19. kurt also makes one for the G26 among many other choices.
