My New Toy

My New Toy
I was out shopping a couple of weeks ago looking for a new toy but couldn't find anything interesting. I was in one shop and the guy said let me go look in the back. He came back with this thing. I couldn't get it until today. They have to hold them for a certain number of days before they can sell them. I would have prefered one older than this but you can't be to picky. Anyway it's a Marlin 1894 made in 1981. The bluing is about 99% and there are only a couple of small dents in the wood. Plan to shoot it this weekend.

And one of the best things about it is the caliber. It's gonna be fun.

I'd love to have a .357 lever. Out of curiosity why do you want one that's older?

That a nice looking rifle .22. You find an older one and I'll take that off your hands. I have a 38/357 Mare's leg and a Marlin 30/30 (first gun I bought off the forum). I have a .22 in every action but lever. If you don't want to sell that one, you see a Marlin or Browning like that, let me know, I'll make it worth your while. Thought I wanted a Henry until you told me they were only plated brass recievers.

Make sure you oil it up good before Joe sees it, the drool might make it rust. I too would have had a hard time not buying that gun.

I just like the older ones. Usually the actions are smoother and the quality of the wood is better. I prefer pre-WWII and pre-1900 is even better. Some of them are a challenge to get going (oddball calibers) which makes them even more fun.

I had one in .44 years ago and sold it (stupid me) because I thought I needed another AR. I wish I had it back.
