Savage Axis

A friend of mine is looking to get his son his first hunting rifle and he's loking at the Savage Axis in 308 to start him off with. I'm nor familiar with it so does anybody have any experience with this gun .

im getting one soon, i was going to get a 223 barrel for my handi rifle but this gun doesnt cost much more than just that barrel so im going with the axis. Cant go wrong with a savage, even a cheap one.

Never would have thought I'd buy a .223 bolt action but I did (saying to stay on topic, savage is making as fine a bolt action that the great unwashed such as me can get one). I love it, it's ready to go if we ever get off our behinds and go shoot some hogs or 'yotes over in TX or any other states we could go.
