CMP 513T arrived!

Post by PhillipM on Fri Nov 18, 2011 10:54 am

I was hoping to get a nice late commercial example with the dovetail under the front sight and the barrel drilled but alas, no such luck. Stock is a beater and is missing the front sling swivel and has no cartouches. The barrel may have some very light frosting in one spot but I'll have to swab it out to be sure it's not just gunk and the combination of light stamping and parkerization, I can't make out the date code, however on another site a serial number close to mine was made in late 1946. The bolt is nice, it has most of the original color case hardening and the trigger pull is pretty good, much better than my other 500 series Remingtons. The only extra I got with it is it has the rear sight base mounted. It has US Property and Military Finish stamps.

I have an excellent stock at home, magazine, and I have a custom scope mount for it too, so all's not lost. It was only $172.95 to my door, so I'm still pleased.

Gotta love the CMP. I need to find some sights for mine. Need a range report soon.

Those old Remingtons are great. I wish I could have gotten over there to pick out a few of them. Good luck with it.

I have tried them before stock always seemed too high for me to get down on the sights

Good snag! I got one also but actually have not taken the time to do anything with it ... needs a bit of cleaning up ..... no dovetails here also ..... just do not know what I am going to do about sights, etc .... ????
