Glock question

Post by Iskon on Fri 18 Nov 2011 - 12:06

Hey everyone,
I got a box of .45 shotshell to take hunting tomorrow cause we have been seeing alot of snakes this year. Is it safe to use this ammo in a factory glock barrel? I was wanting to check and make sure before I possibly hurt the rifling. Thanks in advance.

I have never heard anything that would suggest it would hurt the gun. I think you would be fine. I am sure others will chime in

It will not hurt the barrel. I'd be surprised if it cycled properly though.

you ever watch the video of the person firing the Glock under water? I'd say your barrel is pretty safe. Would probably clean it after I shot though.

Ok cool. Thank yall for the quick responses. Hopefully they'll cycle. If not it will only take the first shot lol.

I've never heard of or seen a shot shell cycle any kind of pistol. I'd just do one shot shell in the chamber and the rest your preferred round(range or carry).

A Hornady .45acp FTX round does wonders to a snake thumbs up

I keep a box of .22 shotshell around for critters, the box specifically states that it is not for use in semi-autos. Heck, I've broken a couple open with the bolt action rifle.

Someone else on here posted a review (may have been another forum) of a large caliber shotshell, and I remember them being unimpressed with both the penetration and the spread at a few feet. I'd pop one into a water jug at a couple of yards before pissing off a snake.

I can vouch for the effectiveness of the shotshells on a snake. I've used 22 and 9mm and they work great on snakes. They will not hurt the barrel and they will NOT cycle the slide. Single shot only.

As stated above - want hurt the barrel .... single load is about your only option......

Based on what yall have said I'll probably just put a shotshell in the chamber and a clip full of hydrashoks.

+1 on their effectiveness on snakes. I've used the .38 SPL in my Security Six for years, many times. Definitely a snake killer! I've tried the .22 rounds in a semi-auto rifle -- will not cycle, but that was expected!

I saw one doe at about 5am Saturday, but I don't like to shoot the does. I don't think it was quite cold enough this time. I've got a good feeling about next week though.

Copperhead on my back porch Monday night. I thought this was November? I screamed like a little girl and used a shovel. I guess I could have been a man about it and used the .410, but dog was about to get bit, and did not have time to get it out and load it.

From the picture, you could leave the rifle at home and hunt with the Glock. A 357 sig with the 6" barrel is hotter than a 357 mag 6" revolver. Better than that just get a 10mm.
