RIA vs. STI 1911
Ok probably a stupid question but here goes. I'm seeing RIA tactical 1911's with 5 inch barrel for around 400$ I've also just seen a STI 1911 5 in barrel plain jane for 628$ no shipping fee. I've been hearing good things about the RIA and I know the upper STI's are great. So anybody have experience with the STI spartan? Is it worth the extra 200$? This would be a just for fun shooter and maybe a few times I'll carry it(probably not since its only 8 rounds and my Glocks are minimum 13). But I figured since there are so many 1911-aphiles on here I'll try another one out. Does anybody have either of these guns and is willing to meet me and 2nd ammendment at magnolia and let us try one out?

I can't meet you, but I have the RIA Tac, and love it. I am not sure what else you would find in a higher price 1911 other than looks and tighter fit. Mine has no rattle, so not sure if that would help. I have put a few hundred rounds through mine, and it eats egerything from my lead reloads, to JHPs.
One thing, the RIA is a series 70 more like the original.

The STI Spartan is built from frames and slides built by Armscor(RIA's parent company) with STI's internal parts, barrel and sights. Only major difference between the 2 is the STI has a fitted match barrel bushing and a stainless barrel. Don't think you could go wrong with either gun but I would go with the Rock.

The Rock's do have great reputations, their customer service is also well spoken of. That would be what I would get if I wanted an affordable 1911.

Go with the RIA. I had the RIA Tac. and loved it. But traded it for a COLT SS Commander. As soon as I find another RIA Tac I'll buy it.

Thanks for the input. I am still undecided though. Sounds like its basically the same gun but with a better barrel and bushing for the STI. I will have to decide if that is worth the extra 200$
