Rossi Help

Post by BigMikeFromOlemiss on Sat Nov 19, 2011 1:40 pm

I have a Rossi .38 special that belongs to a friends. At some point...somebody...for some reason decided it would be a good idea to punch out the rivet that holds the firing pin in the hammer. Great idea right? So anyway now when the rivet is inserted and the firing pin is in place, the rivet is really lose. Is there a fix for this? I tried finding another rivet or firing pin/rivet, but I am having trouble locating one that is in stock.

AWESOME SITE!! I had not tried them and didnt know about them. They have the rivet in stock. Question... What tool do I need or how do I accomplish the expanding of the ends of the rivet so that it remains snuggly in place?

If you have a harbor freight store nearby they will have a rivet gun that comes with some rivets.

+1 on Numrich great site.

Wrong kind of rivet. These dont have a shank like what you are thinking of.

Usually a rivet like these is set using a hammer and or punch against a flat piece of metal to back it up.

You can probably re-seat the existing rivet using the same method.

Before I made it a "permanent change", I'd try some locktite to the larger pin and fire a box of rounds to make sure it's still snug after that.

Use a roll pin punch to slightly flare the ends of the pin like they were originally.

Just get a roll pin and tap it in and cut it off flush with a Dremmel tool.

Roll pins come in all diameters. Get one that is a slight interference (tight) fit.

Hardware stores should sell them. Maybe Home Depot in the fastener section.
