Shotgun (Again-Which one) Went with this.

Post by TankerHC on Sun Nov 20, 2011 7:48 pm

Went to Academy tonight and took a look at these three plus the 870. Settled on the Stevens 350. (Pics below). Just liked it more, even more than the 870. Felt like a quality shotgun in my hands (For this low price), I like the illuminated rifle Ghost ring sights and it feels tight.

ANother thing that got my attention is that it is an Ithaca Model 37 clone, which is a John Browning design.

Savage Stevens 350

H&R Pardner Protector

Mossberg Maverick 88

I have the Maverick 88, and I like it. It's the model with the 18.5" barrel on it. I haven't shot it much, but it works as well as any Mossberg I've handled. The big differences are the plastic trigger guard and different location for the safety. The action is still a bit stiff, but that's probably due to not being used much.

One other good thing if you want it for HD is that a lot of the Mossberg 500/590 accessories will work with the Maverick.

I got a Maverick in great shape at a pawn shop for just over $100 earlier this year. It seems like I've seen a handful of them around lately.

I picked up a Escort Marine Guard like new at a pawn shop for 200 a few months back. I am HIGHLY impressed with it. WAY smoother than a Mossberg or Remington and I would rank it right right up with a Browning BPS except I actually like the Escort because it is smooth and far more simple of a design. Comes with a 3/8" grooved receiver top so adding a red dot is super easy. You can get a blued 20" from Buds for $227. I own every brand I mentioned and would recommend the Escort over all of them. Escorts from Buds

I was just looking at shotguns on Buds and that one (Marine Guard) and a few others like it caught my eye. I think I am going to be hitting all the Pawn Shops tomorrow, Joe S gave me a lead on a Mossberg 500 8+1 Tactical that I am going to check out first. But after that, I am going to them all.

Nice shotgun. Being a Ithaca clone can you slam fire it? (not that I'd want to, young man's fun).

From what I have read, you could only slam fire the early model 37's, they made changes to the later Mod 37's and you couldnt do it. This Stevens is based on the later Mod 37's.

I like that, especially after finding out it's an Ithaca 37 clone. Got three 37's and two will slamfire. They are great shotguns. How many rounds does it hold?

5+1

I did the research on all three models mentioned above. The only thing the other two had over this one was more accessories available. But I dont plan on doing a lot of accessorizing on this one anyway, just a flashlight. I dont make a claim that this 350 is in the same quality league with the Ithaca, and I haven't shot it yet, but generally it gets good reviews. I also dont own a 37, but apparently this is a clone in every aspect except for the action bars. The Ithaca has one and the Stevens has 2. These guns are stamped "Made in U.S.A" but the parts are manufactured by Sun City Machinery in China and assembled in Ohio and Massachusetts.

Hell that is a good looker for sure.....You'll have to give an AAR on the action and how it patterns.......I might have to add one....

Out of the 3 you listed that woulda been my choice. I've liked the looks of em since seeing them for the first time. I'm not impressed with the h&r pumps or semi autos at all and I'm a big h&r fan typically

I traded a forum member for a Norinco 372 a few months ago and it looks identical to yours except it doesn't have a fiber optic sight and has a heat shield on the barrel. That sucker is heavy to.
