This thread has a lot of discussion on the subject with some links and statute numbers:

Once you have the statute numbers, there is free access to the MS Code here:

The MS law is somewhat confusing. It doesnt just come out and say that "open carry is legal".The bottom line is that open carry seems to be entirely dependent on where you are. You can do it in some places without incident and in other places, you'll get told to cover up. You can open carry all you want on your own property.

Recently, a person near here got locked up when someone accused him of brandishing/threatening because he was open carrying. He was later cleared but he lost his job in the process and fortunately an attorney took the case for free. He could have sued the accuser and the police dept, but he didn't want to spend the next 5 years and thousands of dollars chasing his tail.

Many of us have had experiences where our gun came out of hiding and caused a minor ruckus. My "incidents" weren't serious though. You have to realize that most people don't understand MS gun laws (including some LEO's).

So, my opinion is that if you choose to open carry, get your permit, know the law, and don't be surprised if you get questioned about it.

The second amendment and the United States of America gives you the "right to keep and bear arms" period. Individual states can add concealed laws. After lots of research this is MY conclusion. If you have a ccw you can carry anyway you like quote unquote open or concealed. I personally carry concealed MY choice. If I wanted to carry "open" I would. But everyone has their opinion and there will certainly be some that disagree but if you analyze your constitutional rights as well as your state rights you should come to the same educated decision that I did.
